Design Engineering
Design Engineering was established in 1991 in Timaru to provide structural steel inspection, steel detailing, equipment inspections, weld Inspection and welder qualification testing.
Over the coming years the business expanded. In early 2007 a branch was opened in Christchurch and one in Dunedin the following year. In 2014 a branch was opened in Hamilton. In 2018 Design Engineering acquired Survey NZ, a well-established business set up in Nelson undertaking Ship surveys and land-based equipment inspections. By this time the expanded business included: civil and mechanical engineering design, consulting, non-destructive testing, welding inspections and equipment inspections including Hazardous Substance compliance and API inspections.
In early 2021 a major restructure was implemented and DE Group was formed. The group includes three separate limited liability companies trading as DE Consulting Engineers & Inspection, DE Calibration & Compliance and Survey NZ.

UTREX
Utrex is 100% privately owned and operated in New Zealand and has more than 50 years history in the New Zealand Industrial chemical cleaning market. Beginning with Chemical Cleaning Limited, subsequently acquired by ICI and then Orica, Utrex was formed in 2007 to continue operations to support existing clients both in New Zealand and abroad. The management team has assisted in some of the worlds largest chemical cleaning projects.
Over the last 15 years Utrex has expanded its team and service offering to include decontamination of tanks for vessel entry, chemical supply, site preparation for HSNO compliance/producer statements, well acidizing, equipment rental, turn key shutdown services and design and construction of bulk chemical storage facilities. Today just some of the industries serviced include dairy, pulp & paper, power & geothermal and oil & gas.
